The 730E engine is from the Villiers 125cc to 150cc Lightweight range. The engine was fitted with the Villiers flywheel magneto, with the engine cooling fan mounted on the outside of the flywheel. Cooling air is drawn through a rotating gauze. Speed was controlled by a simple air-vane governor, which was fitted as standard on the 125 and 150cc horizontal and vertical shaft engines. On these engines a control is provided to override the governor and reduce engine revolutions to an Idle speed during periods when the engine is not actually being operated.
The 125cc engine had a 58mm bore and a 47mm stroke. The 150cc engine had a 63mm bore and a 47mm stroke. The engines are fitted with either a Villiers S10/2 or B10/1 carburettor as standard, the air filter being of the oil-wetted gauze type or paper element. The capacity of the fuel tank was 4 pints. Lubrication is by “splash”. The oil sump held 3/4 of a pint. It was fitted with a Lodge CN or ChampionL10 spark plug.
These Light Weight engines were normally used to power lawnmowers.
